Research undertaken by Google and IPSOS Australia have indicated that Australia is ranked second largest smartphone user in the world, with over 37 percent of people owning one and growing. The only other country that leads the way ahead of Australia is Singapore with a reach of 62 percent. Google has also uncovered further interesting facts, contrary to the belief that smartphones are normally used on the fly, over 81 percent of Australian's have used their mobile handsets at home within a three to seven day period, as opposed to 62 percent who have used them on the go. Two in five people use their phone researching goods and services while watching T.V. It is also important to know that this market is growing by a further 20 percent per year.
There are also some very interesting implications for all types of businesses with the survey revealing that over 50 percent of Australian smartphone users are using their handsets to research businesses online with a quarter of them having made product purchases via their smartphone. One fifth of smartphone users will also take their phone out shopping and research goods and services while on the move, so if you are in this space your business has a one in three chance of being found on a daily basis by thousands of shoppers in your area!
